January- February- March
In the first quarter of 2024, OpenAI launched the GPT Store in January, creating a dynamic marketplace for customized ChatGPT models, enabling tailored solutions for businesses and developers. February saw Google rebranding its conversational AI Bard under the Gemini umbrella, signaling a new direction for its AI initiatives. By March, Anthropic introduced the Claude 3 family of models, including Haiku, Sonnet, and Opus, bringing fresh competition and advancements in AI capabilities.



April- May- June
In Q2, the momentum in AI continued with groundbreaking developments. April saw Meta setting a new benchmark for open-source large language models with the release of LLaMa 3 8B and 70B, showcasing remarkable advancements in AI accessibility and performance. In May, OpenAI introduced their first natively multimodal models, 4o and 4o Mini, while Ilya Sutskever left OpenAI to establish Safe SuperIntelligence (SSI). June marked Apple's bold entry into the AI space with Apple Intelligence, partnering with OpenAI, while Anthropic launched Claude 3.5 Sonnet and debuted Artifacts, a feature for creating mini apps, signaling a shift in market dynamics.



July- August- September
The third quarter of 2024 brought interesting shifts with Meta launching the Llama 3.1 series in July, including the groundbreaking 405B model, positioning open-source models on par with leading proprietary models like GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet. August saw Elon Musk's xAI solidify its presence with the launch of Grok2, while Google announced its plans to acquire Character AI for $2.5 billion, underscoring its continued focus on conversational AI.
